Drive Forward!

Our Capital Funding Campaign to purchase 906 S. Talbot Street

Introduction: We are thrilled to announce the launch of our capital funding campaign: "Drive Forward!" We need your help to purchase this property and transform it into a beautiful, welcoming gateway to the town of St. Michaels. It seems that obtaining grants and government funding for renovating a property is much easier than obtaining the same for purchasing a property. So raising the funds from the public to purchase this old, discarded service station at the entrance to our town is of paramount importance at this time.

Our Vision: At the Classic Motor Museum of St Michaels, we believe in more than just showcasing classic cars; we believe in nurturing the next generation of automotive talent. With this vision in mind, we are embarking on a transformative journey to expand our facilities and create a dedicated space for our automotive technician apprenticeship program (ATAP).

The Need: Currently, our museum is bursting at the seams with the sheer volume of automotive treasures we've accumulated over the years. Additionally, our existing space constraints limit our ability to offer comprehensive training for aspiring automotive technicians. To address these challenges and continue our mission of appreciate, educate, and give back, we need to secure a new property that will serve as the cornerstone for our expansion efforts.

Our Goals:

  1. Restore the entire property to a 1950's style service station including antique-style pumps, signage and lighting. This will be a welcoming gateway to the town of St. Michaels

  2. Create a hands-on classroom for our Automotive Technician Apprenticeship Program (ATAP) to further their education and encourage others to pursue this vocation.

  3.  Create a space to store additional classic cars and other automotive related artifacts that will enrich the visitor experience and preserve automotive history for future generations.

Our Plan:

Currently, we intend to keep the layout and configuration of the property in tact for our purposes. So the renovation will include infrastructure and external improvements. It will not include an expanision of any kind at this time.

  1. Raise $1.2M by mid-November 2024 through a variety of fundraising methods.

  2. Purchase the property in January of 2025.

  3. Upgrade the curb appeal of the property and utilize it for storage of Museum cars by Summer of 2025

  4. Obtain donations, grants and government funding to completely restore the property to a 1950's styles service station.
